Invasive photography
Mould Petri #3
Mould from dated cheese spread. This will be placed onto photographic paper in Petri dish to observe the interaction and its environment.
I love reading articles that challenge my creative photographic, visual interests and my scientific training. I was drawn to an article on photographic invasion and how this can lead to unpredictable visual results. The article described the random influence of environment (e.g. oxygen, dust particles, acid content in the media). What interested me was how this could be influenced through the use of light and the careful choice of media being used. If we can understand the chemistry of the environment, and the biological processes involved (e.g. decomposition) can we predict the outcome? Is there a way to bring together this understanding to investigate microbial effects in a non-invasive way? Could this be interpreted clinically, in wound infections for example?
