Avant-garde - by definition art that is experimental or pioneering. We think of this now more in terms of experimental research in the development of new methods or techniques. Problem solving more than art.

Until I studied science I saw photography as an art, and associated with with the commercial in making a career. With scientific training I have become interested in the experimental. The avant-garde of aperture and shutter speed.

The decision behind a created image is an algorithm composed of the choices of parameters, light and composition. Chemical photo reactions are equations of light, chemistry and environment.
