Light

Chemigram- First image from an experimental workshop in The Darkroom, Dublin. Using old Photographic B/W Agfa paper, dev & fixer and a feather, the results was interesting.

Light photography is a captivating art form.  It explores the play between light and shadow to create images. Using natural or artificial light sources to sculpt shapes, textures, and contrasts.  Light is the essential element to be captured and controlled in the making of photographs.

We can control light lingering or striking our photographic paper, our film and our sensors. Whether it is a photogram, analogue print or digital image, it is believed that we created the final image. As a scientist, we can apply our equations, algorithms and even AI to create the image.

Getting back into the darkroom was a turning point for me.  Having worked for most of my life in an environment that required instant images being able to control and explore was a revelation. Giving me, and the image, time to breathe.

It also brought me back to how environment interacts with light.  For the last few years, I have started on a research proposal to further a link between Photography and Science.  When I began to look further into Invasive Photography, my thoughts of linking Experimental Photography and Science has not stopped. I am excited.

So here it begins…

I have decided to create a scientific proposal, set up experiments,  look into the various techniques and their relationship with the surrounding environment. And document, document & photograph the outcomes.
